Work Experience

  • Instructor, Writing Tutor, Assistant Archivist / Penn State Harrisburg / July 2018 – present

    INSTRUCTOR: Designed and developed an Introduction to American Folklore class. Created the syllabus, assignments, assessments, schedule, in-class materials and taught the course. WRITING TUTOR: I work with students one-on-one to support their development as writers and as critical thinkers. I work with them across the writing process and on academic and professional documents. In addition, I draft writing resource materials for the Learning Center and facilitate writing workshops on campus. ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST: I process items, curate archival exhibits, perform basic archive maintenance, maintain finding aids and inventories, and help patrons with requests.

  • Instructor, Student Advisor / Midwives College of Utah / July 2016 – June 2017

    INSTRUCTOR: Designed and developed an online practical skills course housed on Canvas. Created the syllabus, assignments, assessments, schedule and facilitated synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences. STUDENT ADVISOR: Mentored and supported cohorts of undergraduate and graduate midwifery students. Maintained student records, provided one-on-one support via phone and email, facilitated synchronous group trainings, met regularly with school administration.

  • Owner / Beehive Birth Care / 2014 – 2017

    Owned and operated my own birth doula and childbirth educator business. Managed all digital and print marketing, public outreach, communications, and finances. Coached and supported birthing families during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

  • Board Member / Utah Doula Association / 2014 – 2017

    Served on the executive board of the Utah Doula Association. As secretary, I prepared agendas and action item lists and managed group communications. As Conference Chair, I led a team of volunteer board members as we developed, marketed, and facilitated a professional conference. As President-Elect, I attended to issues of membership, organizational structure, finances, and public outreach.

  • Instructor, Folklore Archivist, Editorial Intern / Brigham Young University / 2003 – 2008

    INSTRUCTOR: Developed and taught multiple sections of first-year writing and composition. Responsible for all course content and instruction. FOLKLORE ARCHIVIST: Processed items, maintained finding aides and inventories, responded to patron requests, and performed basic archival maintenance. I also facilitated two folklife field schools with the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. EDITORIAL INTERN: Edited manuscript submissions, communicated with scholars, prepared manuscripts for typesetting, facilitated an academic conference.
